Trace Elliot SM Series Output Transistors

I've got a TE SM200 and an SM600 and the schemo shows different output transistors for the different models, SM600, etc. Can you change out the stock ones with the different power ones, and if so, would they need additional/less heat sinking? Just curious since I don't see any other apparent differences between the two should I decide to change the power output on one or the other for some reason.

Well, I've had a few of them on the bench, and I cant stand it any longer, I'm gonna get one.
I had a 60's real AC30 restoration job a few years ago, and when she was finished, I heard what everyone was talking about regarding these amps. (yum)
Later, I had a few reissues come in for minor repairs, and while it didn't 100% nail the tone of the real deal, it came close enough for me.
I cant afford the hand-wired machine, it'll be the cheep chinese model for...

Sunn 1000S Amp

I am working on a Sunn 1000S head. Its a guitar head with trem and rev. (2) 5AR4 (4) 6550 (3) pre-amp. Symptoms are loss of volume after 10-20 minutes of operation. A noticeable drop in volume and a distorted tone. Its a '69 with original caps. I have re-capped the power supply and re-biased with Tung-Sol reissue 6550's. VOX AD50VT issue

I have a VOX AD50VT that was working great and suddenly stopped working. It was working well at a friends house. When we were finished playing I turned it off, packed up my gear and went home. I have a peavey delta blues amp. It sounds like crap. I put JJ tubes in it and that improved it alot but still sounds like crap. It has one 15" speaker in it. I think that is the culprit . does anyone have a suggestion for a replacement speaker? thanks

Peavey Classic VT 212

On the bench: Classic VT 212 combo. Replaced shorted output tranny. Started to re install output tubes and realized that they are EL34 not 6L6. Anyone know if Peavey used EL34's in any of the Classic VTs? All schematics I've seen call for 6L6.

I came across this amp a year ago in an old t.v. repair shop (you know the kind. Old man in the cardigan behind the desk, wallpaper hangin off the walls and probably still some valves in the back, just in case). I took my guitar down to try it out before i bought it for the sum of £60 after hearing one chord through it. It's the Peavey Classic with SS input and a pair of 6L6's with old style metal knobs and 4 inputs, two bright and two normal. I changed the valves after one crapped...

I have a 1956 model GA-55 in good condition. Has anyone ever seen one of these? I have found one other on the 'net. The tone is very rude ala Pete Anderson! 18 watts, a pair of Jensen P12N's and honk for days. Mine is totally stock save for a few replaced caps. Even has original cover. This thing just begs to be modded to fender tweed circuit but, I can't bring myself to hack up such a cool piece.

Anyone Got Any Tech Info on a Standel 30J15T?

I got one in from one of my vintage collector customers....its a basket case pretty much...no output tubes in it...burned components. I can't find any schematic info or other relevant tech data anywhere on this amp. It has plate caps but an 8 Pin output tube socket so I know it doenst use 807s.....anyone have info.

Vintage Ampeg SVT Bias Settings...

Ive always marveled at how sensitive the bias pots are on the old vintage version of the venerable Ampeg SVT. I have one in the shop now getting the complete going over (recap/resistors, cleaning , etc) before it goes out on tour with a well known punk band....setting the bias on one these old gals takes patience and nerves of steel. Ive seen this before, but its like the slightest movement on the adjust pots can make 10mA or more difference...and if you don't get both sides exactly...

5150 output transformer

Anybody happen to know what DC resistance readings I should see on a Peavey 5150 combo(60 watt) output tranny? I have replaced dead PT. After about 40 seconds the 6L6's start to red-plate and no sound. I hoped that maybe someone may happen to have these readings so I can check the OT. (Bias voltage ok@-52.5VDC, B+ high @ 515VDC) Any help appreciated!

I got in a Ctate G130CXL and the output drops off after about 5min or so. The owner said he had some bad solder joints repaired a few years ago when it was jumping channels on him. I'm inclined to think that might be the problem again. I'm about to peel it open and was just wondering if any body else has encountered this problem and what it was. When I find out what it is I'll get back with you.

SVP 1600 thermal problem

I'm working on an SVP 1600 that will come on for a few seconds and then kicks off and the fan starts running faster like it's overheating but it's not. Any suggestions? Maybe in the output transistors? There's a thermal breaker in the PT but I have no idea how I would check it or even get to it and the schematic I have is not-so-easy to read or understand for that matter.

When Dr. Bob died in March of this year he took all of his "secrets" on this amp to his grave. He said he had some mods for this amp, but why? What is the common problems with this hybrid amp?

I opened one up last night for a friend because the controls were scratchy as hell. Once inside I showed him how cheap, cheap, cheap those controls were. I suggested replacing all of them with better quality controls for starters.

Hi everyone,
I'm new to this site, having recently bought my first tube amp in many, many years. It's an Acoustic Control Corporation (usually just called 'Acoustic') Model 164.
This amp sounds great with any of my guitars, whether they're single coil or humbucker equipped.
Is anyone else using one of these? If so, any favourite tone settings or valve choices? It's currently fitted with SOVTEK 6L6 (actually 5881) power tubes and Tungsram 12AX7 pre-amp tubes.
