I know on some Strats I've worked on, that the orientation of the jack in the confined space makes a difference in whether it works or not. I can't recall whether the plug won't insert at all, or whether it shorts or "grounds out" the signal - but you have to install it a certain way.

I'm thinking like Earl that something else was inadvertently disconnected in the recent repair.

I have an older Monster Cable with gold ends that came as a "bonus" in a rack case I found at a flea market. It won't physically fit in the Muddy Waters Tele jack. Every other cord I've tried with G&H, Switchcraft or Neutrik ends fits, and the Monster plug will fit in a new Switchcraft jack from my parts drawer. I measured the Monster plug and it's .251". Just barely on the high side..

Does Fender still use Switchcraft in their guitars? [ at least in the American ones ? ] And if so, has Switchcraft's quality and quality control gone to hell ? ( see my guitar jack problem posting above ) Pretty sure they moved operations to Mexico years ago, but I never noticed a degradation in what I've been using and installing here in the "shop". I've migrated away from their plugs but still use their 1/4" jacks pretty much exclusively. [ except for ones that need the black plastic Cliff jacks - or places where nothing but the PCB mounted stuff will fit ]

The very tip of this one won't go in the MexiTele jack, so it's not a bend problem.

I'm not a big fan of Monster products and was damning their plug until it fit just fine in a new Switchcraft jack out of the parts drawer.

Since when did being relevant matter? We derailed this thread a long time ago.

Is the jack recessed and the chassis/case opening isn't large enough to pass the "body" of the plug? Not that I have a solution,( short of using a Dremel tool ) but that's how I'm picturing your explanation.
