As I recall, most folks say they're pretty much the same - just stay away from the XYZ thing that Sovtek had.
I've got a set of JJ that I'm waiting to put in my friend's old Ampeg. It's still got the originals in it and he's waiting for them to short out , or something.

Avoid JJ, I've had bad luck with them. I can't wait to get rid of the few sets I have on hand. I'll only use them in amps that have 6V6 specs. They
can't handle the voltage of an Ampeg. I would swear they are just 6V6 tubes with 7591 written on them.

Hmmm....
I installed JJ's in this amp, and it's been fine since July of last year. I have had nothing but good luck with JJ's, regarding all their other tubes anyway. -andy-

toledoe, [ ohioe ? ]
Which 7591 do you recommend ? Side note: Never got to install the JJ 7591 in the Ampeg. My friend got a SF Twin Reverb for $60. Since I fixed it up for him he hasn't used the Ampeg.

A great find for sure. In the first pictures I saw of it when he was considering purchase [ how long does one mull a purchase at that price ? ] the cabinet was
more white than black. I was thinking mildew - bad storage. Turns out it must have been drywall dust, because it cleaned up really nice - no musty smell.
Needed one speaker, cap job [ which I did for him as a birthday present ] and got a set of lightly used matched output tubes [ JJs, by the way ] off eBay -
supposedly from one of Eddie Van Halen's Fender/5150 tour amps.
It's a wonderful thing.

Lightly used and EVH's tour amps sounds like a contradiction to me......................

True, but he runs those amps flat out and I understand he even uses a variac to up the mains input..........

I also remember reading an article about Eddie supercharging his amps with a variac to boost the input voltage. His comment-"sounds cool". He
doesn't give a rats a$$ if they blow up every three days. I wok on an amp with the thought in mind that the thing has to WORK and be reliable. They want
the bias cranked up into the "greasy" zone, go someplace else and bitch at them when it goes chernobyl on you.
You want me to play WHERE?

I thought the variac was used to lower the voltage to the amps, for a "browner" sound. No matter.
The quad of tubes I got were like new and sound great, irrespective of their "heritage".
