was wondering if anyone knew whether or not the Groove tube EL34LS is a 25w or 30w tube. I got a set & used 25w to bias them but I saw on Dougs tube site
that they are 30W tubes. They sound very good, very surprized.

Supposed to be a 30w. tube. Here is some verbage from the Myles Rose amplifier blueprinting site [ Myles worked at GT from 2001 to Aug. 2008, but did not make
the transition over to Fender. He was not a "company man" in the sense that he would not hesitate to report on every tube out there, for better or
worse.]:
As a bit of side info - Some people think that Groove Tubes "re-brands" other factories tubes. They do sell a number of tubes from other factories which go through GT's own selection and testing process in some cases but they also have a number of tubes specific to GT which are of their own design and done on their own tooling - exclusive to GT. Some of these are: GT-E34LS (the only 30 watt EL-34 tube with additional plate mass and is NOT the same as the JJ E34L. If you look at the JJ and GT side by side at the plates you will see a physical difference. GT-KT88SV - also an exclusive tube off GT and Penta tooling out of the JJ factory from a long standing relationship with JJ and formerly Tesla. GT-6CA7GE - the reproduction of the General Electric 6CA7 which is an electrical replacement for the EL-34 tube but has a harder vacuum and an active beam forming element not found in an EL-34. GT-6L6GE - the reproduction of the General Electric 6L6GE clear top using the original micas and materials. This tube is stock issue in Fender's custom shop series amplifiers. GT-KT66HP - a proprietary KT66 which can handle over 525 volts on the plates. 12AX7M - a reproduction of the Mullard 12AX7. Here is the original data sheet for the GTEL34LS: http://www.guitaramplifie...t_E34Ls_-_March_1999a.pdf If it says 30w. anywhere on it - I missed it.
Hope that helps. I'd bias them based on a 30w. rating. I'm pretty sure that's what Dr. Z does in his SRZ-65.

Myles on current production tubes in general:
"One reason I will be doing this, is that all current tube makers show the specs for their tubes by just copying the specs of the past that are the standards. Unfortunately ... everybody falls way short of the standards and the range of specs in any given run is 50% typically, and typically on the minus side. There is very little consistency today. I am in the process of building datasheets for all the GT proprietary tubes and I am working with Aspen to get him to allow me to publish ACTUAL data and curves, not just replicate spec. I want to do this on EVERYBODY'S current production tubes and publish this. Doing things this way will there be a bit better chance of keeping the tube makers honest and have them improve or utilize better QA processes. I spent almost ten years at United Technologies doing QA so it is a bit hard to let go of some of those methods. That is one reason the GT-12AX7M has gone through at least ten design and tooling changes, and many material changes. I get samples, I find problems, I shut down production if I can." You can still find Myles over at the Z-Talk forum. Last I heard he works for 65 Amps, and independently - as he always will.

Yeah I bought these out of emergency from guitar center. I was wanting to try some Shuguang EL34B STR. That's what is recommended by Rivera for a good choice for those who prefer EL34 tubes yet frequently play clean. They recommend the Svetlana EL34 first but the Shunguang is close to same quality they say. They say to buy any of them from a retailer with an excellent sorting process. I usually get tubes from KCANOS or Dougs tubes. I also saw pictures of the tubes that GT has of the EL34LS & they look like they have double getters where these do not. Here is a picture of the ones I
got not very good picture but maybe you can tell.

I believe so but I buy from other retailers such as Doug's tubes who may get them from Ruby but do a thorough sort through of them disgarding the ones that
don't cut it. I also use the chinese 12ax7s for utility tubes. They have good gain & are nice & bright. Would not use in V1 or V2 although rivera
does send out some amps with nothing but. In my Rivera I use them in the V3 which only works as a gain stage & has no effect on tone.
