I got a humbucker guitar and am looking for some clean headroom in the 'ole Brown Deluxe. I put 12AY7's in v1 & v2 and a 12DW7 in v3. The DW has a
gain factor of 100 on one side and 20 on the other. Will this hurt anything ? It sounds good and is a lot cleaner. JJ

V3 is the phase splitter so by putting the 12DW7 in that spot you are getting very unbalanced feeds to the two 6V6s. V2 only uses half of the 12AX7 so no point
in putting it there and V1 is split between the two inputs so putting it there would give you one high and one low gain input. Have you tried a 12AT7 in V3?
Putting the 12DW7 in V3 shouldn't cause any problems but I'm surprised it sounds OK.

OK. How about 12ay7's in 1 & 2 and a at7,5751,or a 12ax7 as PI ? What about an ay7 in every slot ? JJ

AYs will be fine in 1 and 2, but I'd stick with an AT in 3 to maintain enough drive to the 6V6s. However, you won't bust anything by trying it out and
if it sounds good, it is good.

I found that a 12AU7 in V1 is very effective for cleaning up (some) tweed amps.

The au7 is Toooooo extreme. I went with 12ay7 in v1,5751 in v2,5751 PI. JJ

It's as clean as it gets for a Brownie. he he The "other" combo's were clean but with NO balls. Now it's clean until you lean on her ! I
