Current production 5Y3 tubes. Which one to use?? |

Seems my choices are Sovtek and Fender. Is the 5Y3 by Fender the same tube or made by someone else? I have also read the Sovtek is more like a 5V4 as far as
its internal resistance. Any one know if the voltage drop is true to the norm for a 5Y3 on the Sovtek tube?
I need to get 22 ordered for my 5D6 amps I am building. Any help or advise appreciated. |

After more research on the net I decided to go NOS on the amps for the 5y3GT tubes. I found a place in Florida, vacuumtubes.net with nos Sylvania and CBS tubes
for 11.00 each. I think this will be the way to go.
For what it's worth it seems that the Mesa Boogi might be the closest to a new 5y3GT that is built to the old specs! |

I found a new fender 5Y3 in my stock (forgot I had it). It's a Sovtek. Wonder if that TAD is a Sovtek?

the russian 5y3 isnt a real 5y3, its actually another type labled 5y3. it passes alot more voltage than a real 5y3. nos is the only way to go in this case.

A real 5Y3 looks like a small version of a 5U4 with oxide coated tungsten filament in elliptical plates.
These things with separate cathodes are more like 5V4s.
