Build one of these if only for this job. ( if you can see what I'm getting at.)
A 100 watt lamp (incanescent only) will limit the current to @ 1 amp. Works good for most amps and stereos that don't have processor operated switches. Dim
or dark lamp = ok to bypass with switch. Bright lamp = unplug and find another problem.
